The Cinnamon Challenge - 2012

Hi, and welcome back to my blog that takes us through viral trends/challenges that took over the web in the past 10 years! Last week we talked about the viral trend "planking", but now it is time to discuss "The Cinnamon Challenge"!

You may be asking yourself right now what the cinnamon challenge might be, but no worry I am here to explain all of your answers. According to outside sources, 'The Cinnamon Challenge' has been circulating around the internet ever since 2001. It rose in popularity in 2007, and finally reached its peak in the beginning of 2012.

This challenge consists of an individual recording themselves eating a spoon full of cinnamon in under 60 seconds without having anything to drink. Here is a link to one of my favorite 'cinnamon challenge' videos on YouTube...

As the challenge grew in popularity people began making it more of a competition. They would start using bigger spoons or anything they could find to fit as much cinnamon in their mouth as they could.

And just like any other viral trend, we see celebrities taking part in all of the fun. Duff Goldman attempted the cinnamon challenge back in 2012 when it still had all the hype. Goldman is a famous pastry chef and television personality, and is known by many in the food industry.

In 2006 his show Ace of Cakes debuted on the Food Network, and since then he has opened his own pastry shop and has written three cookbooks. His taste for sweeter things probably encouraged him to try the challenge that had everyone talking.

However, I did want to shed some light on the dangers of this challenge. Before you attempt this challenge, be sure to always have someone around you that can help if need be. There is high risk of gagging or choking which can lead to not being able to breathe properly. You can also accidentally inhale cinnamon which is extremely bad for your lungs because it can cause infection. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinnamon_challenge)

Next week I will be covering the viral trend, The Harlem Shake, so be sure to look out for my next post..

P.S. I changed the hashtag to #ViralTrenz !!
