Pokémon Go - 2016

Hey guys, and welcome back to Viral Trends Over Time! Last week I made you all an informative infographic on the mannequin challenge, but now it is time to talk about Pokémon Go!

Pokémon Go is a free mobile app available on iOS and Android. It was released July 6, 2016 and has been growing in popularity ever since. While playing, the game tracks your time and current location allowing Pokémon to spawn around your character. It is your job to tap on the Pokémon to try and catch them, but some Pokémon may be tougher to catch than others, so you have to work your way up the ranks to try and catch them all!

This was the original trailer for the Pokémon Go app that currently holds 48 million views on YouTube. This video was released September 10, 2015 which created a lot of buzz around the game for the 2016 release. (https://pokemongolive.com/en/)

The most crucial feature of this free mobile app is the option to play with friends. You can exchange information and hop on the game together allowing players to interact with each other through the game. As a team you can take on "trainer gyms" and battle other players, but please be aware of your surroundings.

By the end of July 2016, Pokémon Go generated over $160 million through in-game purchases. This surpassed many popular games such as Candy Crush and Clash of Clans.

Even though this is a family friendly game it has caused many problems since the release back in 2016. Some backlash the game has faced is a lot of criticism for using cemeteries and memorials as locations to catch Pokémon, and there has been a lot of reports of people trespassing on private property to 'make a catch'. Next week I will be covering the hilarious Milk Crate Challenge! Please be sure to look out for it, and as always, thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Go challenge yourself! #ViralTrenz
