The Harlem Shake - 2013

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog on viral trends that took over the internet! Last week we discussed the viral trend, "the cinnamon challenge". Now it is time to talk about the notorious Harlem Shake!

In 2012, American EDM producer, Baauer, put out the song 'Harlem Shake'. The song was out for an entire year before the viral trend caught on. This challenge/trend consists of a large group of people dancing on camera for 30 seconds as the beat to the song drops. The video below will explain a lot better!

This was posted on February 10, 2013 and currently holds the spot as the most viewed Harlem Shake video with a whopping 128 million views!

As of February 10, 2013 the upload rate for 'Harlem Shake' videos skyrocketed to 4,000 per day. Making Baauer's single #1 on iTunes in the United States, and #2 in the United Kingdom. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlem_Shake_(meme)) This video challenge really had the whole world come together for a brief moment to spread joy and dance moves, and it left a huge impact in the "meme" society.

Next week I will be covering the viral trend, The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge! Please give me a follow on Instagram and Twitter for updates! #ViralTrenz
